[AUTRE TV] Play Dead

Posted August 20th by in Autre, Fashion, Film

Play Dead is a film highlighting scarves featuring the photographs of influential filmmaker, writer, director, photographer, and artist Bruce LaBruce. The Play Dead series by Bruce LaBruce, in collaboration with Front Row Society and Art Stars, draws heavily from the film Le Weekend by Jean Luc Godard, where a supposedly idyllic trip to the countryside turns into a nightmare; with the car crash representing the breakdown within bourgeois society. Inspired by dark moments in his life, such as witnessing a terrifying car wreck outside his childhood farm-home as a young child, Bruce LaBruce created Play Dead to show us his interpretation of the accident scene in Le Weekend. These concurrent themes in Play Dead can also been seen in Bruce’s other work such as Weekend in Alphaville and L.A Zombie.
