Bruce Weber’s documentary about Chet Baker, the brilliant and one of a kind trumpet player, is conveyed through an astonishing miasma of poetic imagery and jazz. The documentary combines photography & old footage to portray a romantic, handsome, and brilliant young Chet at the height of his career, with an older, down trodden, and ultimately trampled spirit of Chet, the artist disillusioned and destroyed by his genius. If only a night on the town could be choreographed as well as this scene in director Bob Fosse’s, Sweet Charity (1969). Wild and amazingly corky dancing makes ‘The Rich Man’s Frug’ stand out amongst the greatest numbers in musical history, but the elaborate costuming, hair & make-up, and set design make a girl want to stick a cigarette in a ten inch holder and wait, posed for both my close up and a light.




Performance, starring Mick Jagger and Anita Pallenberg, is a psychedelic rabbit hole in and of itself; a dark labyrinth of rock n’ roll, organized crime, and free love.

In the seemingly permanent darkness of a Swedish winter, a tale unfolds of adolescent love and an incessant thirst for blood. “Let the Right One In” is scarce in theaters and is coming out on DVD this March.
