Rebecca Cairns captures images like inebriated ghosts in cracked mason jars: shadows, abstract vibrations, and shrieks of light splash like sinking ships in tumultuous, unforgiving seas – death always close, but a sort of sinuous lover none the less – a double that watches from mirrors entirely unable to reciprocate reflections – identity is a perpetual odyssey. Part spirit of Claude Cahun and part angst of Francesca Woodman, most of Cairns photographs are self portraits.
